Spaces are becoming Folders

Starting November 6th, we’re streamlining how you organize and collaborate on Wakelet. Spaces will be replaced by Folders. You will not lose access to any of the content you’ve saved on Wakelet. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing, why, and how it affects you.

Why the change?

When we looked at how educators, students, and teams were using Spaces, we realized a few key things:

  • Most of you are using Spaces simply to organize your collections - like folders.
  • A small group of you use Spaces for collaboration, and that’s now better supported in our Groups feature.
  • Spaces were built on legacy code that hasn’t been fully supported as Wakelet has changed and scaled.

By moving to Folders (for organizing) and Groups (for collaborating), we can offer a smoother experience that’s safer, faster, and built on the latest version of Wakelet.

If you use Spaces for organizing…

Good news - you’ll feel right at home with Folders! On November 6th the following changes will happen:

  • Your Spaces will automatically become Folders - with very little change to the interface.

  • If you’re on the Starter Plan, your folders will be view-only.

  • If you’re on Individual Pro, you’ll be able to:

    • Add new collections to your folders

    • Edit existing collections

    • Create new folders anytime

In short, Folders are everything you loved about Spaces - just more stable and future-proof.

If you use Spaces to collaborate

Collaboration isn’t going away - it’s just getting better!

Moving forward, all collaboration on multiple collections will take place in Groups, available on our Education and Enterprise plans.

Groups are:

  • Safer - with clearer roles, permissions, and more security

  • Easier to manage - invite, organize, and add/remove members

  • Built for teamwork - perfect for class projects, staff collaboration, or community sharing

Existing collaborators within a space will retain access to the folder, however new collaborators cannot be added. If you wish to collaborate with others in a shared group, get in touch.

If you have published Spaces

You’ll still be able to edit and share any existing public pages. However, you won’t be able to create new public pages moving forward.

If you’ve shared your collections publicly (for example, as a resource hub or classroom showcase), nothing changes there - your audiences will still be able to view and enjoy your collections.

We kno
w change can take a little getting used to, but we’re confident that these updates will make your Wakelet experience smoother, safer, and more powerful than ever before.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch, and in the meantime, stay tuned for more updates headed your way!

Thank you for growing with us and being part of the Wakelet Community 💙
